Car service intervals in UAE heat
Updated 11 October 2026
Heat, dust and stop-start traffic are hard on a car, and most owner's manuals have a shorter schedule for exactly these conditions. Here's how often to change the oil and filters, when tyres and batteries give out in the heat, and what the rules say about old tyres.
Why UAE driving counts as "severe"
Owner's manuals usually have two schedules. Toyota's, for example, lists "special operating conditions" that call for more frequent service: unpaved or dusty roads, long periods of idling or slow driving, short trips, and towing or heavy loads. Many UAE commutes tick at least one of these boxes, and summer heat adds wear on oil, batteries and tyres. So the shorter schedule is the safer place to start.
A starting schedule
These are the intervals Benzeen_ starts from for each kind of car, whichever comes first. They're a starting point, not a manufacturer's requirement: your service booklet and your dealer have the final word.
| Job | Every |
|---|---|
| Oil and filter, most cars | 10,000 km or 6 months |
| Oil and filter, European cars on long-life oil | 15,000 km or 12 months |
| Tyre rotation | 10,000 km |
| Engine air filter | 20,000 km or 12 months |
| Cabin (AC) filter | 15,000 km or 12 months |
| AC service | Yearly, before summer |
| Brake fluid | 40,000 km or 2 years |
| Coolant | 100,000 km or 5 years |
| Wiper blades | Yearly |
"Most cars" means Japanese, Korean, Chinese and American makes. Electric cars skip the oil, filters and spark plugs, but still need tyre rotation every 10,000 km, the brakes and AC checked, and a yearly check-up.
Tyres: the five-year rule
Tyres are valid for at most five years from their date of manufacture, and a car with older tyres fails the technical test even if the tread looks fine. Read the age from the four-digit code on the sidewall: 2319 means week 23 of 2019. Driving on expired tyres is a AED 500 fine, 4 black points and 7 days' impoundment.
Batteries in the heat
Heat shortens a battery's life, and in the UAE many last only two to three years. Have yours tested before summer once it's about three years old. Slow starts are the warning sign.
Before each summer
- Service the AC: gas, leaks, a clean condenser and a fresh cabin filter.
- Check the coolant level and look for leaks.
- Check tyre pressures when the tyres are cold, and the age code on each tyre.
- Replace sun-baked wiper blades before the first rain.
Your car's registration renewal includes a technical test once it's more than three years old, so it's a good moment for these checks too. See Mulkiya renewal.

Questions
How often should I change the oil in the UAE?
For most Japanese, Korean and American cars, every 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first, and for many European cars on long-life oil, 15,000 km or 12 months. Your service booklet has the final word.
Do tyres expire in the UAE?
Yes. Tyres are valid for five years from their manufacture date, and older tyres fail the technical test. Driving on them is a AED 500 fine and 4 black points.
How long does a car battery last in UAE heat?
Often two to three years. Have it tested before summer once it's about three years old.
What counts as severe driving conditions?
Dusty or unpaved roads, long periods of idling or slow driving, short trips and towing. Many UAE commutes include at least one.
How often should the car's AC be serviced?
Once a year, ideally before summer: gas, leaks, a clean condenser and a fresh cabin filter.
Do electric cars need servicing?
Yes, though less: there's no oil or spark plugs, but tyres, brakes, the cabin filter and the AC still need regular checks.
